Fleming, Moonraker
1955
The film took liberties with the book. The antagonist lived in the Amazon, and Roger Moore went to space. Not to spoil anything, but that doesn't happen in the book. He wrote this in the '50s
The Bond of the books is not the same suave one we see in the movies. In the film, he drives a Rolls Royce, but it's an old open-top 1930 1/4 liter Bentley in the book. In the chase scene, Bond gets covered in bugs. In a climactic card scene, Bond gets almost disturbingly drunk. I found his character amusing and realistic, but much more sad and desperate than the Bond we see in the movies—a much more human nature. Someone you wouldn't want to be around in real life.
