Lucretius, On the Nature of Things

100 BC

Are you a Science Guy who likes poems? This one is for you. On the Nature of Things is an epic poem written in the same dactylic hexameter (Homer's guide on the meter). Written a hundred years before Christ was born, he discusses physics, describing a developed atomic theory (for reference, Dalton introduced the nuclear theory into chemistry in the 1800s), describes the laws of the conservation of matter, the details of biological mutations, and survival of the fittest, as well as celestial movements.
